It can be hard to know what to expect from a new game console when it’s announced since we don’t know much about it yet. This list of the most anticipated Xbox Series-X games showcases the best-looking upcoming games that we do know about, giving you an idea of how much fun and how awesome the Xbox Series X will be when it’s released in 2022. These are the games that are at the top of everyone’s list! There will surely be plenty more added to this list by 2022, but these are some great starting points!
Halo Infinite
Xbox Series-X games for 2022
Both campaign and multiplayer were released at different times, but both turned out better than the game’s first impressions. During the test periods, a few of us were able to see just how good this game was shaping up, but now the competitive mode, that will determine Halo Infinite’s long-term success, is out and it’s quite remarkable. Rather than trying to emulate the trends set by other titles in the genre, this game goes back to the old style of shooter that Halo used to be known for. Arena shooter fans have been wanting a true sequel to Halo 3’s multiplayer for over a decade.
A game that seems built on the original Silent Cartographer mission in Halo, Halo Infinite is an open-world game where you can tackle a variety of missions and tasks any way you like, such as sniping down enemies from afar or charging in with a huge Scorpion tank. More variety in environments and a tighter narrative would be appreciated. On the other hand, Halo Infinite is a storming success as a first-person shooter and a must-have for any Halo fans.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Ubisoft’s historical action/stealth series, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, continues with this time you’ll take control of Eivor: in the wilds of medieval England, a Viking warrior is forced to establish his clan’s new home. All the usual Assassin’s Creed activities are included here – searching for quests and treasure, searching for Templar agents, building up your arsenal of stealth and combat tools, and so on. This time around, you’ll also build a settlement, travel on a longship, and raid monasteries, like any good Viking, should.
According to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s official website, the game loads quickly on Xbox Series X, and it maintains a steady performance of 4K/60 frames per second. You’ll never have to wait long to jump back into the action, whether you’re fast-traveling across the map or retrying a difficult combat encounter.
Gears 5
Xbox Series-X games for 2022
One might argue that the release of Gears of War 4 did not bode well for the series, and it showed a lack of momentum with its single-player aspect. But with Gears 5, the franchise is experiencing a triumphant return to form with this latest installment. Along with flashy cutscenes full of action that we would expect from a Gears game, this entry also tries to tell a story and can creep us out sometimes with creepy visuals. This is a Gears game, which means that these fundamentals are still in place, such as a satisfying quick reload and bullets chewing through baddies.
Gears 5 is also a very gorgeous game, in the sense that it might elicit feelings of yearning and infatuation. Extra power in the game means added textures and improved shadow details. The addition of a light form of ray tracing also takes it to the next level. Running at 4K at a stable 60 fps is the only way to play Gears 5.
Destiny 2
The creators of Halo have changed hands, but Bungie still shows their mastery of the genre with Destiny. Destiny 2 has grown into one of the most popular games in the service shooter genre in the market. The game’s success is kept up, despite ups and downs in content and company choices, by how exciting and playable the gameplay is. As an FPS, Destiny 2 just feels good to play, which is the most important aspect for most players. There is a lot of PvE content now that so many expansions have been released, as well as the more traditional modes of PvP if you’d rather fight it out face-to-face.
Gears Tactics
Xbox Series-X games for 2022
XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Gears 5 would have a child called Gears Tactics. As a strategy game, Gears Tactics handles a tricky proposition: combining characters, antagonists, and weapons from the Gears series with a top-down action game.
The gameplay, however, is not about XCOM’s subtle moves. Instead, Gears 5 is about neutralizing as much as you can and extending your “turn” as much as you can, thus conveying a Gears action feel without the viewpoint of a third-person shooter. The Xbox Series X has better textures, performance, and load times, again making it the best place to play Gears.
Outriders
If Outriders came out in another year, with a different story, it would not have attracted as much attention. Outrider is a new third-person shooter with Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly behind it, which is usually known for high-profile, established shooters. With Spring 2021’s launch schedule slowed down by mass delays, Outriders quickly became one of the year’s most exciting games. Microsoft Game Pass also played a part as Xbox Series X owners would find something to do with it. That being said, I have no intention of backing out just because there is nothing else to play.
Outriders is a genuinely good game. Players are in control of a hero with powerful capabilities, who shoots and launches magical powers and does it all at once. As it turns out, this game features many customizable characters builds, like multiple character classes and a deep perk system. Three-player co-op takes a spinoff series to be one of the better new experiences available on Nintendo’s Wii X. If it continues, it’ll have a bright future.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light
Xbox Series-X games for 2022
Despite not being exclusive to the Xbox Series X, Destiny 2: Beyond Light is still one of the best games for the console. As part of the Xbox Series X, Beyond Light offers 4K resolution, faster loading times, and smoother performance than it does on the Xbox One.
You can thus enjoy the first-person shooter action from the creators of Halo, meaning the game offers excellent action in a massively multiplayer environment. Beyond Light is definitely a game you should give a try.
Star Wars: Squadrons
Although Star Wars: Squadrons is a cross-platform game, it has been optimized for the Xbox One, which means it supports higher resolutions and framerates, with a maximum of 120 frames. As a result, the Xbox Series X is among the best consoles for playing this arcade-like space combat simulator.
It’s an awesome space combat simulation. Star Wars: The game allows you to sit in the cockpits of various Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire fighters in a galaxy far, far away, all while enjoying a rather lovely modern graphics engine. In the game, you take advantage of maneuvers that shake a pursuing TIE fighter and then target it to pieces in the vacuum of space and fight it out in a lived-in sci-fi setting. Controls are neatly mapped to the Xbox Wireless Controller, making this a joy to play.
